Knowing how to form a charitable nonprofit is helpful, but it doesn't answer one key question: Should you launch and lead a nonprofit?

Through a nonprofit, you could make an amazing contribution to your community. Still, forming the nonprofit, choosing a leadership team, laying the nonprofit's foundation, raising funds, and offering services requires a lot. Time, energy, focus, persistence, and more.

So, I've created the Readiness checkup to give you space. Space to explore your vision, possible operating models, nonprofit pros and cons and more. To help you draw out those questions hiding in the back of your mind.

All so you can reach a confident decision about whether and when to launch and lead a U.S. charitable nonprofit.

What You'll Accomplish

Together, we'll step back from the paperwork and thoughtfully examine the questions and decisions that will shape your nonprofit journey:

What problem are you called to solve?

Does a nonprofit make sense?

What other options should you consider?

Are you ready for the responsibilities ahead?

What strengths—and gaps—do you bring?

What's your wisest next step?

We'll have three live small-group sessions to talk about your vision and generate important questions. Between sessions, you'll seek the answers so we can explore the possibilities together when we come back together.  You'll get:

  • Live work sessions to explore your Vision, concerns, and questions
  • Guidance to help you research the right questions
  • Help arriving at clear next steps--whether you decide to form a nonprofit or take another path

"When you think about starting a nonprofit all you want to do is make a difference but this is a great course that opens your eyes and gives you a nice Foundation to what it really takes to start a non-profit. Great class for beginners!"

  • You have a vision for helping people or communities in need
  • You're not sure if starting a nonprofit if the right move for you.
  • You want to be sure of your decision before investing time and money
  • You don't know what you don't know & want guide to help you
  • You want to leave confusion behind in favor of clear next steps

Why can't I just create a nonprofit on my own?
You can certainly do this on your own. This program is for those who value efficiency and tips for avoiding common pitfalls.

Does this program provide legal assistance?
No, it doesn't. It offers training, sample documents, tips, and access to an experienced consultant to help you make key decisions and complete your startup paperwork.

Most of those decisions are not legal ones, though you can certainly get a legal review before you file.

Should I enroll if I'm not ready to start a nonprofit?

The Lab is all about action. If you're not ready now, draft your documents & file when you are.

Why shouldn't I just use an online legal service?

No argument here. If that's your preference, go for it. A legal service will probably give you a questionnaire to complete, so they can prepare and submit your state & federal filings.

They can make sure your paperwork meets the legal requirements, but they probably can't help you answer the questions in their questionnaire.

Why? Because those are non-legal matters. This program will help you answer those non-legal questions.

How long will it take to create a nonprofit? This program will run for 6 weeks, but you may need more or less time to tackle the tasks, depending upon your starting point and your level of effort.

Your state may estimate its processing time and some will expedite your filing for a fee. And IRS offers information on current processing time on its website.

But this program can't control government turnaround times.
