This is where things get "real" as we explore options and potential challenges, and consider financial and other realities.

Who will you serve, and what need will you address?
Identify those you'll serve specifically enough to plan meaningful activities.
What will your nonprofit actually do?
Programs, services, activities, frequency, delivery—enough substance that this is becoming an organization rather than an aspiration.
What will it take to make that happen?
People, facilities/space, partnerships, equipment, professional expertise, licenses or other operational requirements.
What will it cost—and how might you pay for it?
Moving from a vague intention to "raise funds" to a realistic estimate of expenses and potential revenue sources.
What important decisions need to be made before formation?
Things that affect how the organization should be structured rather than discovering them halfway through the paperwork.
Is this plan workable now?
The reality check: proceed to formation, continue working on the plan, delay starting the nonprofit until you work out critical issues, or pursue an option other than a nonprofit.
- A clearer definition of who you'll serve, the need you'll address, and how you plan to serve them
- A practical outline of your nonprofit's initial programs, services, or activities
- An understanding of the people, resources, partnerships, facilities, licenses, or other requirements involved in carrying out your plan plans
- A preliminary picture of what your nonprofit will cost to operate and potential sources of revenue
- A workable nonprofit plan and clear next steps for moving forward
